Certified Domestic Violence Specialist - (CDVS)
CDVS-I, II credentials

The Certified Domestic Violence Specialist (CDVS) credentials, offered by the National Anger Management Association (NAMA), are designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective domestic violence education and treatment services. These certifications are suitable for counselors, educators, social workers, psychologists, chaplains, coaches, and other professionals working in community settings.

Certification Levels

CDVS-I: Domestic Violence Education Services
Purpose: Prepares individuals to deliver educational programs on domestic violence in schools, community organizations, and other group settings.

Training Requirements:
- Completion of a minimum of 12 hours of NAMA-authorized training (live or distance learning).
- Focus areas include understanding domestic violence dynamics, cognitive-behavioral concepts, brain function and change, communication skills, empathy development, stress management, and consequences of abusive behavior.

Supervision: Two hours of supervision with a NAMA-approved supervisor.

Application: Submission of the CDVS-I application along with a resume and a $125 processing fee.

CDVS-II: Domestic Violence Treatment Services
Purpose: Qualifies professionals to provide treatment services to domestic violence offenders, including court-ordered programs (if approved by local and state courts).

Prerequisites:
- Successful completion of CDVS-I certification.
- Possession of a mental health state license or relevant certification.
- Professional liability insurance.

Training Requirements:
- Completion of additional coursework, including:
- A six-hour ethics course focusing on ethical concerns and moral neuroscience in domestic violence counseling.
- Study of designated texts such as *Domestic Violence Treatment for Abusive Women* and *Treating the Trauma Survivor: An Essential Guide to Trauma-Informed Care*.
- Reading one of the following books: *Letting Go of Shame*, *Rage*, or *Healing the Angry Brain*.

Supervision: Three to four hours of supervision with a NAMA-authorized supervisor (three hours if the applicant holds a Certified Anger Management Specialist (CAMS) credential).

Application: Submission of the CDVS-II application along with a $150 processing fee.

Important Considerations for the CDVS NAMA Credential:
- State and Local Requirements: While NAMA's CDVS certifications are nationally recognized, they may not fulfill all state or local requirements for domestic violence service providers. It is essential to consult with local authorities or professional boards to ensure compliance with regional regulations.
- Supervision Arrangements: Applicants are responsible for arranging their required supervision hours with any NAMA-authorized supervisor. A list of approved supervisors can be found on the NAMA website.
- Application Process: All applications for CDVS certification should be submitted directly through NAMA's official channels. Ensure that all prerequisites are met before applying.
